In the heart of the captivating rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was essentially unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His main role was to tend to his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the breezes through the solo tree on the hilltop were his only associates. Day in day, watching over his responsibilities inculcated in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. During one such occasion out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty plot.

Stories of wild beasts prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One morning he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but discovered no beast.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. But, one day, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf here but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
